Education in Seychelles is highly valued and the government has invested heavily in it to ensure equitable access to quality education for all. The Seychelles education system is based on the British system and is divided into five levels: pre-primary, primary, secondary, tertiary, and higher education.
Pre-primary education is available for children aged 3 to 5 and is offered in both government and private schools. At this level, children learn basic educational skills such as reading, writing, counting, and social skills.
Primary education is offered to children aged 6 to 12 and is based on the National Curriculum. This curriculum is designed to develop students’ problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Secondary education is available to students aged 13 to 17 and is divided into three levels: lower secondary, upper secondary, and post-secondary. At this level, students can choose to specialize in either science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) or humanities and social sciences.
Tertiary education is offered to students aged 18 and above and includes both vocational and technical education. Vocational education focuses on practical skills and is offered at both the Certificate and Diploma levels. Technical education is more specialized and includes courses in engineering, business, and IT.
Higher education is offered through the University of Seychelles, which is the only tertiary institution in the country. The university offers undergraduate and postgraduate
